Russian vets inspect control measures against ASF

Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor has announced a large-scale inspection of all the pig farms located in the regions, where there was no spread of ASF so far, such inspections have not been conducted yet.

Already now the authorities have uncovered 42 violations of the regulations for ASF in two regions and in each case fines of RUB 85,000 (US$2,300) were imposed.

According to the Russian state veterinary service, Rosselkhoznadzor, employees of the department of veterinary supervision in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Republic of Mari El have carried out 28 inspections of companies involved in the production and sale of pork and its products.

The further inspections are under way. Russian officials say that with the intensification of the fight against the disease, including at the territories where the outbreaks have not been registered yet, the industry could minimise the negative effects.

“The aim was to prevent the spread and eradicate African Swine Fever from the Russian Federation,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Arcadikovich.

It is assumed that in the near future the inspection may also start in more remote regions of the country, including at Ural Federal District and even Siberian Federal District.
