ASF Germany: Cases in wild boar NRW state up to 92
The number of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in the wild boar population in Germany’s North Rhine Westphalia state has gone up to 92. The outbreaks continue to stay in the same infected area – so far, the virus outbreak therefore appears to be contained.
According to data by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the outbreaks continue to be found in 2 districts only, i.e. Olpe (59) and Siegen-Wittgenstein (33). Ever since the 1st outbreak was detected in June, infected zones have been identified to localise and contain the spread. Those zones did not have to be expanded so far.
Of the 92 cases, 14 were discovered in June, 53 were discovered in July and the additional cases (25) were found in August.
The disease pressure about 100 km to the south, between Frankfurt-am-Main and Mannheim, appears to be a touch more manageable now. In the 3rd quarter of the year (as from July 1), the authorities in Hesse state, which was the state with most cases, found 48 new cases in wild boar, compared to 856 (1st quarter) and 700 (2nd quarter).
