Latest Pig Progress magazine: Focus on Germany
As the world’s largest swine event, EuroTier, is coming up once more, the latest – extra thick – print edition of Pig Progress has a strong focus on Germany. Here is an overview as to what to expect, with a link to access your digital copy.
Which pig innovations does this year’s edition of EuroTier have in stock? One golden medal has been awarded for a handy trough cleaner – but there are many more things to be found at the biannual show in Hanover, Germany, to be held 11-14 November. The overview on page 14-17 give a quick insight.

Throughout the magazine, it will be possible to read in detail about various other novelties that will be featured at EuroTier. How about a stronger floor for a farrowing pen (page 30), a milk support device for large litters (page 36), a novel smartphone app to detect fever (page 38) and a new algae-based strategy to help reduce antibiotic usage (page 41).
Germany – no longer in the lead as pig producer
Germany as a pig producing country hasn’t had its best years of late. Professor Hans-Wilhelm Windhorst summarised the latest developments in his country focus on page 10. Whilst reading about Germany, make sure not to miss a warning article about African Swine Fever on page 6. As the virus has emerged in neighbouring Belgium, it’s better for farmers in Germany and anywhere else to be prepared.
Interview with CEO of Big Dutchman
Ahead of EuroTier, Pig Progress editor Vincent ter Beek interviewed Bernd Meerpohl, CEO for Big Dutchman. As one of the captains of industry in Germany, he shared his views on the new Xaletto innovation for grow-finisher pigs. Page 26-28
Liquid feeding on a farm in Lower Saxony
In addition, correspondent Norman Dunn also went to Lower Saxony, to visit the Reinke farm, which recently added a fermented liquid feeding system to its farm. He spoke to the farmer and the producers of the system, the companies Weda, ForFarmers and Dr Ferm, to discover the advantages of this system. Page 32 – 34
Columns on pig roots and authorship
