PHOTO REPORT: SPACE 2013

The organising committee is addressing journalists at the kick-off of the 27th edition of SPACE.

Will the record-breaking number of exhibitors also lead to the highest number of visitors? Day 1 saw many crowds pass by.

As usual, the show is a place for many to meet and greet and update themselves about the latest developments in the industry.

Novelties at the show include eg. this new type of basis protection for slats, presented by Danish company Aco Funki.

French housing & equipment company I-Tek presents four new innovations, of which the new Caillebotis H20 – a thinner and easier-to-clean type of slat.

The French Pork and Pig Institute (IFIP) received two stars with its GEEP website, an online tool for pig farmers helping them with environmental management.

Two Innov’Space stars for Asserva (France) for its Materneo. This lactating sow feeding device allows individual feeding patterns for each sow, and which comes with computerised monitoring, also available on smartphones.

Three stars were given to this on-farm euthanasia device, called Euthazen, by Cimac Elevage. It avoids to transport injured or non-healthy animals to have to be transported.

Another two-star innovation went to Acémo for its Modulosec, a fully automatic dry-feed distributor for lactating sows.

Special mention here for Dutch-based Fancom, which received three stars for its Cough Monitor, a system which can detect lung problems in pig houses by monitoring the coughs.

Time for a beer at one of the pig cooperatives’ booths.
