A balancing act - mineral requirements versus environmental pollution
As pig barns have become larger and amassed several
thousands of pigs per operation, there is a growing concern about the millions
of tonnes of waste effluent from nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and high trace
mineral concentrations that are produced each year. Requests to the swine
industry are increasing to take responsible action in order to reduce this
source of pollution.
