Pig herd in Russia grows by 7%

According to the Russian ministry of agriculture, a government scheme to investment in the pig sector carries on to show results, with a 7% rise in pig numbers.

In the beginning of September, the total pig population was 15.8 million, an increase of 7.1% in comparison to the same day, one year earlier.
 
Total slaughter of cattle, pigs and poultry for meat in the period from January to August 2006 increased by 4% year-on- year to 4.2 million tonnes, the Russian government said.
