US swine breeding and gestation course

The University of Minnesota Swine Extension and the Minnesota Pork Board are offering a course on swine breeding and gestation management April 27-28 at the West Central Research and Outreach Center, Morris, Minn.

The course will address rearing replacement females, breeding systems and mating options, managing pregnancy, preparing for parturition, and sow health challenges and management. Experiences and applications with alternative systems, such as outdoor hoops, will be highlighted.

Classroom instruction will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27 and hands-on instruction in the swine research facilities will be from 8:00 a.m. to Noon on Tuesday, April 28. To maximise learning and understanding, the hands-on session incorporates activities relating to material covered in the classroom portion of the course.©Registration is due April 20.

Course instructors are from the University of Minnesota and private industry, making the workshop relevant for experienced pork producers seeking refresher information and updates on recent developments and also those who have limited pork production knowledge.© Cost of the program is $100 per person and includes learning materials, meals, breaks, instructor fees and biosecurity clothing for hands-on training sessions.
