US: Recipient of Allen D. Leman Science in Practice award announced
Paul Yeske, DVM, MS, was named the recipient of the 2010 Allen D. Leman Science in Practice Award. Presented by Pfizer Animal Health and the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine, the award was given at the Allen D. Leman Swine Conference in St. Paul, Minn.
“Pfizer Animal Health is pleased to present such a deserving individual with this award,” says Steve Sornsen, DVM, MS, senior director, veterinary operations at Pfizer Animal Health. “Dr. Yeske’s years of experience and work with disease control and eradication has affected the pork industry in a very positive way. He has diligently helped educate practitioners, honouring the spirit of this conference.”
Established in 1994, this award honours individuals who have made a significant impact on swine health and management research. It was created in honour of Allen D. Leman, a University of Minnesota veterinarian, who was dedicated to furthering education for practicing veterinarians. He assisted in starting the swine conference with the goal of bringing together professionals to discuss new research and important issues in the swine industry.
“It’s a great honour to receive this recognition and be associated with previous recipients of this award,” says Yeske. “I’ve had the opportunity to know and work with Dr. Al Leman, making this award extremely special for me.”
Yeske practices as a swine veterinary herd health consultant at the Swine Vet Center in St. Peter, Minn. His emphasis is disease control and eradication research. He is currently serving on the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Eradication Task Force and Production Animal Disease Risk Assessment program committee for the American Association of Swine Practitioners. He is also active with the National Pork Producers Council and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.
He received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Iowa State University and earned a master’s degree in swine medicine from the University of Minnesota. He also obtained executive veterinary program certification from the University of Illinois’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
