Pfizer expands veterinary medicine R&D
Pfizer is set for a modest expansion at its downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan facilities, bringing the total headcount to over 700.
Pfizer’s veterinary medicine research and development group which is globally headquartered in Kalamazoo will be growing by roughly 50 positions over the next six months.

Company spokesman Rick Chambers says that includes some job transfers from legacy Fort Dodge sites following Pfizer’s purchase of Wyeth.

As a result Pfizer plans to close the Overland Park office that had been the headquarters of Fort Dodge Animal Health.

The closing will affect 200 jobs. Pfizer says some of the employees will be offered jobs at other Pfizer sites, while others will be able to bid on other jobs.

According to the Kansas City Star most of Fort Dodge Animal Health’s business and administrative functions will move to Pfizer Animal Health’s Madison, New Jersey, headquarters.

Chambers says the company has no timetable for the move.

Pfizer intends to keep a focus on its veterinary medicines as the global market for them continues to grow.
