ISU webcast shares financial risk and marketing strategies

As Iowa’s livestock industry struggles to overcome the economic downturn that began in 2008, a team of Iowa State University (ISU) Extension faculty and staff members in working to help cattle and hog producers with developing risk management strategies.

The Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) and Iowa Beef Center (IBC) are partnering to present a Webcast on the topic on Monday, Feb. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. People can view the webcast from a home computer or at any of the participating Iowa county ISU Extension offices.©

These speakers will offer their expertise:
Chad Hart, grain economist
John Patience, swine nutritionist
Dan Loy, beef nutritionist
John Lawrence, livestock economist

IPIC director John Mabry said the program provides a great set of presenters with timely and important information.

©“They’ll talk about feed costs risk, covering strategies for managing feed costs and the role of alternative feedstuffs,” Mabry said. “They also will discuss outlook for feed and livestock, and strategies for managing price risk using futures, options and insurance products.”

There is no charge for attending the meeting but those who want to attend at a county ISU Extension office need to preregister by Feb. 13. These host sites will have additional discussion and activities during the Webcast.

Those who choose to participate in the Webcast from their own homes can access the program beginning at 7 p.m. The archive of this Webcast will be available shortly after the event via links from both the IBC Website and the IPIC Website.©©
