German pork exports increase

10-03-2008 | |

Exports of German pork increased in 2007 around 20% to 1.2m tonnes according to provisional figures of the German Statistics Office as reported by market and price agency ZMP.

Exports in other EU states also increased last year above average rates. Imports of pork increased around 5% last year.

Increasing corn prices have lead to an increase in mixed feed prices. In February, purchase prices for producers for milk-producing feed increased to €79 per tonne – or 48% over the level of a year previously.

In addition, feed for finishing pigs was more expensive – it increased 46% between the same period in 2007 and 2008 to €275 per tonne.
