EuroTier: What to think of it?

As the EuroTier week draws to a close Pig Progress editor, Vincent ter Beek, gives us a sneak peek of his experience…

When people ask me what I think of EuroTier 2012, all I can say is: “I don’t know.”

It’s not because I failed to obtain an entrance pass. It’s not because I prefer my hotel bed either – although this is 80 km down the road.

Just some figures: Almost 2,500 companies – 17 halls – 160,000 visitors expected. There were 72 invitations in my inbox to come and see companies, press conferences, attend dinners, speak to communication people, have a drink or to stop by. I don’t go to all – sometimes there are two or more events held simultaneously.

Then, there’s my colleagues, who suggest booths to me – or who want to take me to meet new people.

There’s our own booth, which needs looking after from time to time.

There’s 160 km of driving every day. And traffic jams.

There’s news to be written. Photos to be made. And to be sent on. I go towards 20 stories this week only. There’s Pig Progress on Twitter. There’s Pig Progress’ Facebook. I’ve had on average four hours of sleep every night.

And now – finally! – there is exactly one afternoon left to go out and about – and do what I’m good at: Gather information for a great review.

You don’t hear me complain. But if you ask me what I think of the show, all I can say is: “I don’t know. Yet.”
