Purdue University students are doing just that, earning US$30 per session for smelling odours collected from livestock barns as part of an odour research project.
The students have to place their noses inside an olfactometer and smell diluted samples of air taken from different locations on farms.
The project is being conducted by Albert Heber, a professor of agriculture and biological engineering at Purdue. The purpose of the project is to improve the methods for determining a given livestock farming operation’s odour emissions.
