Betagro to spend 3 billion baht to upgrade facilities – due to higher demand for pork and poultry

12-01-2011 | |

To cash in on rising poultry/pork demand, the Betagro Group, one of Thailand’s leading integrated business enterprises, plans to spend three billion baht to upgrade its supply chain and increase production capacity to cash in on rising demand to become a major supplier for premier grade chicken and pork products, says chief operation officer Vasit Taepaisitphongse.

“The increased volume will raise chicken production to 410,000 birds a day; up from 370,000 last year, that will help serve growing export demand which is expected to expand 10% from last year’s 40,000 tonnes. Our high-grade products, sold under the S-Pure brand, have been produced under joint ventures with giant Japanese food corporations, outsourcing operations for shipment back to that country.”

The latest joint venture with the Japanese food leader Itoham Inc. and Ajinomoto (Thailand) Ltd. began operations last year, he says, and will double Betagro’s sales of processed meat products, mainly sausages to Japan, to 6,000 tonnes by next year.
