UK: Highlighting devastation of PEDv

US pig producer Harold Lee will be highlighting the devastation caused by PEDv at a series of biosecurity seminars being run by BPEX.

And a taster of just what effect it had on his Meadow Hill Farm, Iowa, can be had by clicking this link to part of his filmed presentation, click here.

Maintaining good biosecurity throughout the entire supply chain is the first line of defence against exotic and emerging diseases such as ASF and PEDv.

Other speakers at the event include vet David Chennells, BPEX veterinary advisor Derek Armstrong and the AHVLA covering surveillance and providing biosecurity advice.

BPEX welfare projects co-ordinator Georgina Crayford said: “PEDv is threatening us from the US and ASF is spreading across mainland Europe so biosecurity is absolutely vital to provide protection for the British industry.

“An outbreak of either would be devastating, not only for the domestic industry but also for our exports which are now worth some £350 million a year.

The events are open to producers, processors, vets, hauliers and allied industry and attract RDPE funding so those attending only pay 30% which is £47 plus VAT, including lunch.

The seminars are being held on:

  • 16 Sept – Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 6QN
  • 17 Sept – Diss Rugby Club, Diss, Norfolk, IP22 5RG
  • 23 Sept – Sandburn Hall, Flaxton, York, YO60 7RB
