Russia restricts imports of Ukrainian pigs and pork
Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has imposed temporary restrictions on the import of porcine products from the Lugansk Oblast, Ukraine, from January 17, 2014, because of African Swine Fever (ASF).
The discovery of ASF among wild boars in January 2014, prompted the restrictions on the import of pigs, their genetic material, porcine products (which were not subject to heat treatment enabling to reach +72ᵒC to ensure the elimination of ASF virus) as well as on wild boar slaughtered products, horns and hoofs, raw casings, hair, pig feed which were not subject to analogous heat treatment, hunter’s trophies which didn’t undergo taxidermy, equipment used for pig keeping, transportation, slaughter and cutting.
Rosselkhoznadzor Territorial Administrations also strengthen control over the animal products in hand luggage and luggage imported from the Ukraine into the Russian Federation.
