In order for fattening pigs to thrive, their diets need to contain a fine-tuned mixture of all kinds of ingredients. Vitamins play an essential part in that composition, as will be shown in a Pig Progress webinar on Thursday, September 26.

The webinar will be held in cooperation with DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition and Health, and will start at 3pm CET. Participation is free of charge, when attending live, there is the possibility to interact with the speakers; the webinar is also available for viewing on-demand later.

Vitamin D3: Benefits for finisher pigs

The webinar will elaborate on results that were shared on an event in Berlin, Germany, in May of this year – a message that was shared at various locations around the globe. Vitamin D3, in short, plays an essential role in supporting phenomena like enhancing muscle gain, immunity or bone health in finisher pigs.

Obviously the question is: Do modern finisher pigs receive the levels they require? To that end, 3 expert speakers will address the audience, sharing the latest findings on the global vitamin D3 status of pigs.

The webinar will be kicked off by Masuf Hasan, PhD candidate at the Research Institute of Farm Animal Biology (FBN), Dummerstorf, Germany. He shall address the importance of blood vitamin D3 status in fattening swine.

Next up will be Verane Gigaud, marketing and business development at the department of special nutrients, EMEA within DSM-Firmenich. She will be giving an overview of vitamin D3 status evaluation in finishing swine.

The webinar will be concluded by Dr Jon Bergstrom, senior technical support, swine solutions, North America at DSM-Firmenich. Topic of his talk wil revolve around the question how improving 25-OH-D3 levels in blood can benefit fattening swine. He will illustrate that with the latest research.
