Covid-19 pushes VIV Asia 2021 to September

The international trade show VIV Asia 2021, originally scheduled for March 2021, has been postponed to September 2021 due to Covid-19.

Organisers VNU Group announced the news in a press release. Global travel restrictions and the mandatory 14-day quarantine for all visitors entering Thailand would have placed limitations on the event in Bangkok. The new dates of the event will be 22-24 September, 2021. Just like the original plan, the venue will be Impact, in the north of Bangkok.

In the press release, Panadda Kongma, director of VNU Asia Pacific, said: “Our local office in Bangkok is monitoring the cautious measures that the Thai government is taking due to concern of a second Covid-19 wave, as witnessed in other countries.”

70% of participants from outside Thailand

Zhenja Antochin, senior project manager of VNU Europe, said, “VIV Asia alone attracts more than 50,000 professionals with 70% of participants visiting from outside of Thailand. Vaccines seem to be stagnant in the trail stage throughout multiple countries and are not likely to be broadly distributed until early 2021, thus limiting the ability for many companies to plan for business trips. As organisers, we believe that a high-quality show with an expected number of international buyers can come to fruition by postponing the shows until September 2021.”

In addition to VIV Asia, co-located events such as Meat Pro Asia and Free From Food Asia were also postponed until September. On the new dates, the same halls at Impact will be used as previously planned for March (Challenger 1, 2, and 3).

In a broader context, VNU decided to move all its shows to the 2nd half of 2021. That means that also the Ildex shows in Vietnam and Indonesia, as well as Aquatica Asia will be held later in the year.
