Agromek: Which swine innovations received awards?

It is trade show season in Europe as 2 weeks after EuroTier, another major international agricultural trade show will kick off: Agromek, to be held 27-30 November, in Herning, Denmark. What pig innovations will be on offer?

Traditionally, innovations at Agromek can receive 1, 2 or 3 stars depending on various criteria. In total, 42 novelties will be shown at the fair across the board, which also include segments like e.g. agricultural machinery, tractors or energy.

Below are the swine innovations which received 2 or 3 stars.

Flyscreens for air ventilation

Skov, 3 stars

The DA 1200 flyscreen can be installed in front of the air intake vents, thereby significantly reducing the risk of infection, which can be spread to the animal housing via flies and other insects. According to the Agromek jury, the flyscreen is the 1st standardised solution on the market with a flyscreen installed on each air intake vent. The flyscreen is a separate component that can be retrofitted on all air ventilation grills with matching measurements.

Calculation of ammonia emissions

VengSystem, 3 stars

VengSystem’s VE118 ammonia measuring method is a system for ongoing documentation of ammonia emissions from livestock facilities. The VE118 system can, with a single device, measure the emissions in 3 different facilities, for example: a farrowing barn, a nursing barn and a gestation barn. A VE118 central device is combined with one or more VE119 measuring interfaces which collect the cubic metres of air from the measuring blade.

Automatic feeder with sensor

ACO Funki, 2 stars

An automatic feeder with sensor, Babyfeeder is suitable for even the smallest pig from 4 kg. The feeder’s design allows for mixing feed and water inside the trough, which helps ensure better hygiene and cleanliness. The trough is filled automatically when the sensor notes that it is empty. Our baby trough is long, which makes it easy to install between the partitions in the sties. The dimension of the trough, front height and width are designed for very small pigs.

Chain feeding system

ACO Funki, 2 stars

The MasterChain programme has now been extended to include 6 different sizes. From 400 kg/hour to up to 30 tonne/hour. The MasterChain programme consists of various sizes, the MasterChain programme consists of feeding transport in 6 different sizes, the largest of which has a diameter of 160 mm. The food is transported by a chain feeding system, which facilitates the transport of large amounts of feed over substantial distances.

Feed managing system

ACO Funki, 2 stars

FeedManager registers how quickly the pigs eat their feed. The time register is used in a feeding curve that automatically adjusts future feed amounts. This means the FeedManager can automatically adapt to the pigs, and the farmer no longer needs to manually adjust the amount of feed.

Intelligent feed supplements for sows

A-One, 2 stars

Colfapig is a feed additive for sows, consisting of short and medium chain fatty acids (C4, C10 and C12). The fatty acids support the sow’s ability to produce raw milk with a higher energy and antibody content. The improved milk results in higher growth and lower mortality in piglets. Colfapig is a microgranulate which is added to the sow’s feed.

Pig production on straw

Big Dutchman, 2 stars

Xaletto was also presented at EuroTier. It is a new, documented pigsty system for hay, which prioritises animal welfare and the environment. The process is based on a special ventilation system, feed which is suitable for the system and, not least, a compost activator. The system can be used for piglet rearing and finishing in existing or new stables. The concept prevents unpleasant odours from pig houses and the manure can be used as fertiliser or composted.

Conveying system for dry feed XXL

Big Dutchman, 2 stars

DryRapid’s conveying system for dry feed has been extended to include an improved XXL conveyor system, which can convey a feedline of up to 500 m, including 4 corners. The corner wheel has been improved so that the conveyor chain from the extra long installation is carried by flexible pipes which adapt to the pressure on the parts of the chain. The pieces of the chain are made from a new material.

Conveying system for dry feed for smaller sections

Big Dutchman, 2 stars

DryRapid’s conveying system for dry feed has been extended to include a corner conveyor system and accompanying tensioning device. This system provides the opportunity for a more compact and cheaper solution than conventional conveyor systems. The system is intended for lengths up to 150 m.

Exchange of data

Big Dutchman & Grainit, 2 stars

Warehouse management for handling purchases, sales and consumption on the farm. Grainit BD-connect is an integration solution for Big Dutchman feeding computers that facilitate the transfer of data between Grainit and Big Dutchman (2-way). Stock movements are automatically recorded, which enables the raw material supplier to monitor the farmer’s stock availability for refilling purposes.

Climate control concept

KJ Klimateknik, 2 stars

Odin is a new concept for user-friendly and secure climate control in modern pig production. The user gains full digital control over the climate in the pig house, which is operated by smartphone or computer. The concept consists of one central electronic device per property, as well as a number of local devices in the pig houses. The central device has an integrated alarm function so the user has full surveillance of their pig house.
