DSM hosts 2nd Eubiotics Focus Group meeting in China

DSM supplier of active nutritional ingredients hosted the 2nd global Eubiotics Focus Group meeting at its China Animal Nutrition Research Center in Bazhou, Hebei from 5-7 May 2015.

Designed to promote A Global Exchange of Ideas on Eubiotics in Swine, the event attracted scientists, experts and swine producers from around the world, who met to discuss ideas, experiences and insights in the use of Eubiotics in the global feed industry.

Today’s awareness of the need to prohibit the use of antibiotics as a growth promoter in swine production has inspired research activities globally to develop nutritional solutions using alternative feed additives such as organic acids, essential oils, probiotics and enzymes. Known as Eubiotics, these products support the health and growth of livestock by positively modulating their gut flora. Their significant benefits have been demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo.

Participants in A Global Exchange of Ideas on Eubiotics in Swine gathered with the common aim of understanding how to best define effective solutions to replace antibiotics growth promoters and reduce the need for the treatment of swine with antibiotics. Swine specialists presented case studies from their own experiences, while scientists presented their research findings on topics related to all stages of swine farming; from sows to finishing pigs, from the use of dietary anti-inflammatory products and minerals to the effect of the diet structure on gut health.

Christophe Paulus, Global Category Manager Eubiotics, commented, “I am very proud to host our 2nd Eubiotics Focus Group meeting at our new Animal Nutrition Research Center here in China. The need to reduce the use of antibiotics in swine production is and will remain a key challenge for the industry in years to come, not only in Europe but worldwide too.”
