Brazilian pig farmers to protest as AveSui kicks off

Angry Brazilian pig farmers have announced to protest on the first day of the AveSui trade show, which will be held 2-4 April in the Expo Center Norte in São Paulo.

The pork producers are angry about prices of R$0.80 per pound (US$0.88/kg) of pork produced, Brazilian website PorkWorld reports.

The rally ‘Right Prices for Production’, created by the São Paulo Association of Pig Breeders (APCS), calls the pig farmers throughout the country to participate to change the current situation that endangers the entire national pig chain.

Quality pork
Valdomiro Ferreira Junior, APCS president, said, “Brazilian swine producers know how to produce quality pork. Numbers and research institutes confirm that, but we can not continue producing at prices below the cost of production.”

Marcelo Lopes, president of the Association of Pig Breeders (ABCS) said, “The situation of farmers is unsustainable. We are seeking measures to protect the pig farmers in those periods from the federal government, like the Policy Guarantee Minimum Prices (PGPM) for pork and others who assist in their profitability.”
