Russia: Agro-Belogorie’s pork production continues to grow

05-09-2011 | |

As of 1 July, the total livestock number in all pig complexes of Belgorod based pig holding Agro-Belogorie was about 613 thousand heads, up 15 thousand compared with the level of 2010, reported the press service of the company.

Moreover, if the population increased only by 2.5%, the sales volume will grow 3.5%, reaching 50 thousand tonnes which is 6.4% more than the target figure.

The representatives of the holding also noted that thanks to a tougher approach with compliance to safety technologies as well as implementation of a more effective vaccine, all complexes could reduce the mortality of animals by almost 20%. “This indicator has been achieved mostly due to raising animals technologies,” said Anna Belkina, director of pork production department of Group of Companies Agro-Belogorie

A positive trend has been shown by most of the performance indicators. For the first six months of 2011 it has received nearly 596,000 piglets. Daily gain in the herd was 548 grammes, exceeding the rate of the previous year by almost 4%. African Swine Fever which is actively spreading through the territory of Russia has not yet caused any damage to the company because all of the 12 pig farms of Agro-Belogorye are located in the Belgorod region, where the dangerous virus has not been found.

The Agro-Belogorie group was founded in 2007 and today it is the largest producer of pork in Russia, taking market share which equal to 6.5%.
