Talina put a large pig farm project up for sale in Russia
Talina Holding put a construction project of a pig complex up for sale, which has the annual capacity of 25 thousand tonnes of pork in live weight in the Arzamas district of Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia.
The total cost of the finished project is estimated at 50 million rubles (US$ 1.7 mln). Total project investments amounts to 5 billion rubles (US$ 174 mln). And the expected pay-off period is eight years. Under the project, property in agricultural land has already been purchased, which has a total area of 5.7 thousand hectares.
"We cancelled the construction of the complex, to focus on our two other major investment projects - in the Ulyanovsk region and Transbaikalia, a pig-breeding complex "Simbirsky bacon" and a meat-packing plant, where the demand for pork is more measurable than in the Nizhny Novgorod region," explained Larissa Shmyreva, official representative of agricultural holdings.
However, according to unofficial sources, the decision of the holding management has been made due to concerns of veterinarian services that the Nizhny Novgorod Region is potentially dangerous because of the recent outbreak of African swine fever.
However, experts noted that it is too early to say that the dangerous virus forced investors to withdraw funds from the pig industry. “It is obvious that this project will be in the interest of a variety of Russian and foreign companies,” says Nikolai Birulin senior market analyst and forecasting expert of the National Breeders Union.
