Topigs ships breeding pigs to Japan

14-07-2011 | |

In June Topigs shipped 324 breeding pigs to Japan. These animals from the top of the Topigs’ breeding pyramid and with the highest SPF health status came from Canada.

After a quarantine period in Japan, they were transported to their final destination: a new farm with 3000 sows that will use Topigs InGene for future sow replacement. Earlier this year Topigs also imported breeding stock from Canada into Japan for the same farm.

More pigs to head to Japan
Later this year, more imports to Japan from Europe and Canada will take place. With these imports, Topigs is providing the Japanese market with high-performance genetics. Topigs sows and boars are highly valued in the Japanese market. Since their introduction just a few years ago, they have surprised the Japanese farmers with their high and efficient production of piglets and meat.

With a production of 1,100,000 crossbred gilts and over 6 million doses of semen per year, Topigs is one of the biggest genetics suppliers in the world.
