Hungary less strict about pork from Germany

03-02-2011 | |

Following the dioxin scandal, Hungary requested that pork imports from Germany be tested for the chemical. However, this has changed – now Hungary is no longer asking for the mandatory testing.

It has stated however, that shipments will only be tested if it is seen as a threat.

According to the Ministry of Rural Development, the decision to ease the rules came after discussion with the EU, and Germany said it was preventing any tainted products from entering the market.
Currently, despite the rule easing, Hungarian food and animal health officials still need to be notified two days before new pork shipments arrive.
