Korea free of Foot-and-Mouth disease/ seeks to resume pork exports
Korea has been declared free of Foot-and-Mouth disease. The country will now seek to resume exports of pork.
The agriculture ministry says the World Organization for Animal Health restored Korea's disease-free status on Monday five months after the last case of FMD was reported back in May.
According to the ministry, the animal health organization recognized the nation's quarantine efforts in the aftermath of the FMD outbreak and its follow-up steps to eliminate the disease.
Korea resumed pork exports to Japan in July, and has said it would try to do the same in the US once it received the FMD-free designation.
