Pigs imported to increase pork production

Russia plans to increase pork production through the importing of high quality breeding pigs from Canada, according to the Russian media reports.

A few days ago, more than 1,200 elite Canadian pigs were shipped to the Russian Far East, and more shipments are potentially planned.

According to Russian experts due to the same climatic conditions in Eastern Russia and Canada, the Canadian pigs should easily adapt to Russia, providing an opportunity to increase the local pig herd and the production of high quality pork.

I am would like to understand what the climatic conditions in Russia have to do with this transfer of pigs - are they to be housed outside?
