Russia reports another outbreak of African Swine Fever
Another outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has occurred in Kuban, said speakers at a meeting of the Krasnodar territorial emergency situations commission, last Thursday.
Russian press agency Itar-Tass reported that they said: "The disease has been recorded in five districts of the Krasnodar region: Krasnoarmeiskaya, Temryuk, Starominskaya, Kurganinsk and Novopokrovskaya."
"There is a danger of ASF spread throughout the territory. The entire population of 1.1 million pigs is at stake," Krasnodar governor Alexander Tkachyov said.
In total, 107 outbreaks have now been spotted in Russia, as can be seen in the image supplied by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
At a special World Pork Event, organised by breeding organisation Topigs, during the last edition of EuroTier, it was said that African Swine Fever may well form a threat for Europe as well if it continues to spread from Russia.
