Vlasov said that Russia was able to stop the epidemic’s advance allowing experts time for the development of a vaccine.

Meanwhile, he says, Russia could face another dangerous infection – African swine fever.

According to Vlasov, because of the disease the population of wild boars in the Stavropol Area decreased from 3.500 to 150 species, while North Ossetia lost all its pigs.

The disease threatens not only wild boars but also domestic pigs.

“If the government does not focus on this issue, the economic damage could exceed EUR 1 billion,” says Vlasov.
