Butler named 2009 NPPC President

Don Butler, director of government relations and public affairs for Murphy-Brown – the livestock production subsidiary of Smithfield Foods – has been elected president of the National Pork Producers Council. He was elected to the post for a one-year term at NPPC’s annual business meeting held March 5-7 in Dallas.

A©member of NPPC’s board of directors for the past three years and president-elect since March 9, 2008, Butler has served on various NPPC committees. He is past president of the North Carolina Pork Council and past chairman of the Animal Agriculture Alliance.

Butler also has been in leadership positions with the North Carolina Agribusiness Council, the American Pheasant and Waterfowl Society, the Sampson (County, N.C.), Friends of Agriculture and the Bladen County (N.C.) Livestock Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.

Strong leader in US pork industry
“Don has been a strong leader in the US pork industry and brings the unique perspective of a government relations-public affairs professional to dealing with the challenges our industry faces,” said NPPC CEO Neil Dierks. “He will be a good leader for NPPC as he works on behalf of America’s pork producers.”
