China to lift ban on German pork imports
After two years of negotiations China has agreed to lift an import ban on German pork, the German Agriculture Ministry has reported.
German junior Agriculture Minister Gerd Mueller signed a veterinary agreement with the Chinese government on Monday in Beijing which is expected to open the door for German pork shipments to the country.
Germany has long sought an end to the ban, which was put in place following past outbreaks of swine fever. Germany continuously argued that its swine fever cases are no more common than in other European countries.
German exports are expected to resume following the creation of a veterinary certificate to be used for shipments and inspections of German producers by China’s authorities.
