New swine-breeding facility in the US
Ground is being prepared at Mound City in north central
South Dakota for a hog operation that could reportedly produce 60,000 piglets
per year as breeding stock worldwide.
The plant is expected to be finished by April 2009, although company
officials hope to begin some operations by the end of 2008.
The cost of the Mound City operation is estimated at US$16-18
mln.
The Pig Improvement Company was founded in the UK in 1962 and developed
its own lines of breeding stock in the 1960s.
