Pork Board in fight against childhood hunger
The National Pork Board (NPB) has announced a
partnership with Share Our Strength, a national organisation working to make
sure no child in America grows up hungry.
The Board will be the official protein sponsor of Share Our Strength's 2008
Taste of the Nation events in six cities: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas,
Houston and New Orleans.
"Our pork producers in the US help to feed the
world. So it is natural for us to work with Share Our Strength in its vision of
ending childhood hunger," said Lynn Harrison, a producer from Elk Mound, Wis.,
and NPB president.
Each spring and summer, some of the nation's best chefs donate their time at
Taste of the Nation events in order to raise the critical funds needed to end
childhood hunger.
According to Pamela Johnson, director of consumer
marketing for NPB's Pork Checkoff, "we are working on extending this national
sponsorship to the local level to support local Share Our Strength efforts and
work with local culinary professionals to promote pork and pork production."
