Netherlands: One institute for animal health
The Netherlands is working towards one organisation for
animal health covering areas from research to improvement programmes on the
farms.
To achieve this, the Animal Sciences Group (ASG) of Wageningen University and
the National Animal Health Service (GD) will join forces. In the new combination
all parties will continue their own activities.
The group employs 1,400 people and has an annual turnover of € 175
million.
Current GD-director Anton Pijpers will lead the new cooperation, which will
come into existence in the next few months.
ASG and GD see this new effort as a perfect answer to the scale-up in
agriculture and the international quality improvements in the food and
agriculture sector. Both organisations emphasise that this joint effort is of
utmost importance to stay ahead in knowledge intensive agriculture sectors.
A strong basis is important for Dutch animal husbandry to keep further
improve its leading global position.
