Germans eat less meat in 2008
The consumption of meat in Germany has decreased with almost 3% in the first
half of 2008, compared to the same period last year. This is according to the
German Butcher organisation Deutscher Fleischer-Verband (DFV).
Especially the consumption of pork is lower than last year. In the first half
of 2008, Germans ate 3.8% less pork than in the same period last
year.
According to DFV the figures represent the whole meat sector in the
country and not only the specialised butcher stores. Last year, German people
consumed 61.6 kilo per person, of which 40 kilo pork.
