Arrest made in Maple Leaf syringe case
A 51-year old employee in an Ontario processing plant has been arrested for a possible food tampering incident last autumn, involving hypodermic syringes without needles found in or near meat products.
The incidents in the Maple Leaf plant resulted in a recall of smoked and sliced ham and turkey products.
The three syringes discovered may have been used for veterinary purposes.
Pleased
In a statement, Maple Leaf said that it was ‘pleased’ with police attention to the matter and support from other employees in the investigation.
The man has been charged with criminal negligence. He will be expected in court by the date of March 9.
