Hytek Ltd., a pork production
company based in La Broquerie, Manitoba, has signed a major deal to purchase
significant equity interest in Chongqing Tianson Food Holdings Co. Ltd. (Tianson

This is encouraging news for the
Canadian pork industry. Hytek Ltd is a leading Canadian pork production company
that was founded in 1994 and now owns 57,000 sows in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and
the United States. China is the largest pork producing and consuming country in
the world.
Tianson Foods owns a feed mill,
pork production facilities, slaughtering and processing plants, as well as a
chain of retail meat stores in China. The strategic vision of Tianson Foods is
to supply safe and consistent pork to the largest market in the world.
In a related deal, Fast Genetics
Inc., a leading international swine genetics company and a subsidiary of Hytek
Ltd., based out of Saskatchewan, has signed a licensing and dealership agreement
with Tianson Foods to use and distribute Fast Genetics in China. Fast Genetics
Inc. will export genetics to China to populate nucleus facilities owned by
