New ham facility in North Carolina
About 300 new jobs have been created by the opening of
a new Smithfield Packing boneless cooked ham facility in Kinston, North
Carolina, US.
The new $100 million plant features technologies designed to enhance food
safety, improve food quality and reduce water consumption. It initially will
produce approximately 41 million kg of pork products on yearly basis, including
products like deli ham and sliced lunch meat.

The new plant is the company's second in Kinston and its seventh plant in
the state of North Carolina. Smithfield, US's largest pork producer, employs
11,000 workers in the state.
The plant will contribute over $1.5 million in annual wages to the local
economy.
