Grant for Iowa pork company
Iowa-based pork producer Premium Iowa Pork received a
$300,000 agriculture grant from the US department of agriculture
(USDA).
The Hospers, Iowa-based company received the Value
Added Producer (VAP) grant on Monday. The company plans to expand its plant
capacity from 700 to 1,800 head per day.
Steve
King , a Republican member of the House Agriculture Committee and
subcommittee on conservation, credit, rural development and research, presented
the grant.
Key role
He said, "This grant programme plays a key role in helping producers
compete in the marketplace, increase their profitability, and in turn, keep that
money flowing through our local communities."
Premium Iowa Pork is one of 31 companies from the state of Iowa that
received more than $4.2 million in VAP grants from Rural Development this year.
The funds can be used for planning activities or for farm-based renewable
energy projects and also to provide working capital for marketing value-added
agriculture products.
