Russia: Processed pork containing ASF hit the market
In the Mtsensk District, Oryol region, Russia several batches of pork products infected with African Swine Fever (ASF) has been discovered, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.
It is assumed that the infected pork products has been for sale for some time and some consumers may have purchased and consumed the products. Also the wastes from these products are used as feed for pigs, which will result in a series of new outbreaks.
According to the press secretary of the department, Olga Chanova, an audit was conducted in response to an outbreak of ASF at a the largest pig farm in the Shchekinsky district, Tula region.
“It was found that LLC Lasarevskoye, in the in the Shchekinsky district, supplied meat products and sausages to the Orel region’s selling point,” said Olga Chanov. “We have already identified the people who have trade relations with the Tula company.”
Rosselkhoznadzor’s regional department is trying to figure out whether the products containing ASF has been supplied to any other selling points.
A study carried out on the sausage products identified the ASF genome. Further diagnosis is being carried out in the Vladimir region. The current selling point has been disinfected and quarantined.
