People: BIVI Hires executive director
Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) has announced that Del Birkhofer will take on the role of executive director, Swine Division.
Birkhofer is a demonstrated leader in animal health and brings a wealth of product marketing experience to the position.
“We searched extensively to fill this key position,” says Tim Bettington, vice president of sales and marketing for BIVI. “Del has proven marketing expertise, leadership ability and people skills we need to continue to meet and exceed our business objectives.”
Birkhofer, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, in St. Paul, joins BIVI from Merial, a Sanofi Company, where he most recently was head of ruminant global strategic marketing in Lyon, France. His responsibilities included global new product and in-line strategy; portfolio lifecycle management; profit and loss management; and business development activities.
At Merial, Birkhofer also served as senior director, large animal marketing, international region and New Zealand country manager. Other domestic business experience included field sales of pet and large animal products; sales training; and sales management for Merial and Merck AgVet; and director of national accounts for Merial.
“The Swine Division has been a major contributor to our company’s overall growth and success in recent years,” Bettington says. “We are excited about the marketing expertise and energy Del will bring to the division, and more importantly, to the veterinarians and swine producers we serve.”
