Two new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) reported in Russia

Two new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) have recently been reported, on pig farms in the Tver and Krasnodar regions.

This was stated in an official message of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

In the Krasnodar region, the agricultural holding Kanevsky Bacon in Bryukhovetskiy district was found infected. At the time of the outbreak the pig farm held more than 6,100 swine. It is too early to say, but probably all this stock will be culled to prevent the further spread of the disease to the enterprises located nearby.

Rosselkhoznadzor representatives also reported that the company itself is situated 25 km away from the site of another outbreak of ASF: The pig farm Reuktsy. The total pig stock in Bruhovetsky area is currently estimated to be 15,800 hogs.

"At the outbreak of the disease state veterinary service being taken a number of activities to localise and prevent further spread of infection," said Rosselkhoznadzor in an official statement.

According to statistics released by the service, in the current year, 23 ASF outbreaks have been registered in the Krasnodar region, among both domestic pigs and wild.
