Betagro plans three year overseas expansion

"Customer demand", says Nopporn Vayuchote, Betagro executive vice president for group business, for Thailand's second-biggest agribusiness, in 2011-to2014, will focus on capturing more export markets in its "farm to fork" and technology exports, in South Asia, particularly India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in a break-away from the group's main business which has been focused 80% on its domestic market.

We can balance our business against the strengthening baht as our imports are higher than exports now," he says, adding that Betagro's total sales are set to reach Baht 55 billion this year as it sustains an annual growth of 10-15%, while increase by 20%, its pork exports to 10,000 tonnes in 2011, making it Thailand's biggest pork exporter, whose main market is Japan.

Thailand's farm sector to grow
Thailand's farm sector's to grow by 3.1% to 3.2% , up from 2.1% this year, reports Apichart Jongskul, secretary-general, the Officeof Agriculture Economics, adding that severe floods and other natural disasters had disrupted crop production in China and a ban on wheat exports from Russia, in the wake of heavy storms, has also benefited Thai farm exports.
