The proposed RM100 million pig-rearing project in Sepang is not welcome by the more than 20,000 residents appalled by the proximity of the facility to their homes.
Kampung Tumbuk village head Mohd Tarmudi Tushiran said the project's site was fewer that five minutes away from the nearest village. "We don't have anything against pig farming. Our main concern is its location. Why can't the authorities locate the project on an island, for example, away from the people?†One of his main concerns is potential disease outbreaks.
Several memorandums have been submitted to the Selangor government to protest against the pig farm, which once completed, would relocate all small farms in the area under one roof. The state government had stated that it would hire foreign experts to carry out a study on the million project.
