People: Anitox - new sales manager

Feed industry specialist Pieter Vos has been appointed by Anitox as sales manager for the Benelux countries, comprising Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

A Dutch national who lives in the eastern part of the Netherlands, Vos has been involved in the livestock and feed sectors throughout his career. After leaving University in 1995 he was involved in buying and selling piglets for Select Porc and subsequently worked for a number of livestock feed companies, including C.A.V ‘Den Ham’ u.a. and Oude Elberink Veevoeders. Most recently, he has worked for Booijink Veevoeders in a senior sales role, selling its range of speciality feed products throughout The Netherlands and Germany.

Vos stated:  “This is an excellent time to be joining Anitox. There is a tremendous need for the company’s products and services in the Benelux because, in common with many other countries, the pig industry here has substantial problems with levels of Salmonella and other pathogens. In the Netherlands, for example, pig farms are placed in one of three categories when it comes to Salmonella and producers who receive a Category 3 grading are required to take effective measures to deal with the problem.

“Despite efforts to control the major pathogens such as Salmonella and E. Coli they remain of major concern to pig producers and feed manufacturers. My feeling is that the problems are greater than they appear. Only recently, Salmonella was at the centre of a major public health outbreak in the Netherlands, which has further raised awareness of the need for effective control measures to ensure that public health is protected. Producers will also benefit substantially in terms of improved livestock performance by doing so, improving their profitability.

“My initial focus will be on raising awareness of Termin-8, Anitox’s pathogen control program for finished feed and raw materials. Its synergistic combination of anti-microbial substances, surfactant and propionic acid provides rapid, persistent, non-pH-dependant control of gram-negative bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli together with gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. It also controls spore-forming bacteria such as Clostridium and mould in feeds/feed ingredients, while its residual activity protects against recontamination during cooling, storage and transport for up to 60 days.”
