Listeria discovered in New Zealand pork products

New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has overseen Hawke’s Bay company Bay Cuisine’s voluntary recall of ready-to-eat pork products after Listeria was detected in the company’s Eazi Carve and Ratanui Hams, and The Mad Butcher salami and pepperoni products.

Bay Cuisine has issued a voluntary recall of a number of ready-to-eat meat products.

“MPI wants to ensure any unsafe food is not available for sale and that people do not eat any of the recalled products they may have bought already,” Andrew Coleman, Ministry for Primary Industries Deputy Director General Compliance and Response, says.

MPI advises anyone who has any of the recalled products not to eat them and to return them to where they bought them, or dispose of them via the normal household rubbish.

MPI is inquiring into cases of Listeria in Hawke’s Bay.

“MPI has implemented a test and release programme for ready-to-eat meats at Bay Cuisine and is currently managing any potential food safety risks to the public,” Mr Coleman says.

MPI will update the public with any relevant information when we can.
