IGA introduces label for Aussie produced pork

08-07-2009 | |

IGA supermarkets in Australia will introduce labels to help identify which pork is produced in Australia. The bright pink logo will be placed on all fresh pork packaged for sale on the supermarket shelves.

The logo should identify that the pork has been produced by Australian pig farmers and will be placed on all products in the next coming months. According to Australian Pork Limited chief executive officer Andrew Spencer, the IGA’s move is a “big step forward” for Australian pig farmers who have been working closely with retailers to have clearer labels for their products.© He further added that it is important for customers to know that the products are made in their home country.

The next step will be to have pork in deli meat sectors labelled, such as hams, bacons, salami and smallgoods.
