Russia bans meat imports from Canada

17-12-2007 | |

The Russian supervisory board for animal and plant health has provisionally banned imports from Canada to its eastern region Primorje.

Alleged falsifying of veterinary certificates is the reason behind the ban. In more than 400 out of 534 cases, the Russian authorities found false documentation.

It is suspected that the Canadian declared meat actually originated in China. Meat imports from China to Russia have been banned since autumn 2004.
