Regional Dutch pig AI stations favour merger

It has become more likely that one big national cooperative pig AI station will be created soon in the Netherlands, the Dutch agricultural newspaper Agrarisch Dagblad reports.

Members of both the cooperative AI stations in the regions of Twente (East Netherlands) and Limburg (South East Netherlands) allowed their boards to start negotiating a merger with the Pigture Group and the Varkens Activiteiten Centrum (VAC, Pig Activities Centre).

Intentions
One month ago, the Pigture Group and the VAC already revealed their intention to merge. The Pigture Group is the cooperative holding of Topigs, one of the biggest pig breeders in the world.

Both the AI stations of Limburg and Twente had intensive talks with these merger candidates to explore the possibilities of creating this one big national AI organisation.

Draft
A draft for the plans has to be ready by the end of this year or by the beginning of next in order to allow the boards and their members time to decide.

The organisations hope to create maximum efficiency through these mergers.
