Increase in German pork spending

17-10-2007 | |

Private consumption of meat has slightly increased in 2007 in Germany. Up until the end of August 2007, demand for pork was up 1.6% in comparison to the figure this time last year.

On average, pork was somewhat cheaper in September 2007 than in 2006. Only prices for poultry have increased dramatically by 13%. Sausage meat has also increased pricewise slightly.

Declining consumption
Whether this minor increase in meat sales can stop the declining consumption, which has been continuing since 2003, is still uncertain.

In 2003, the average German consumed 60.8 kg of meat. This figure had decreased to 59 kg in 2006.
